Our experience with ZH Commissioning has been positive and productive in resolving issues with our HVAC system in our new middle school. We believe that ZH Commissioning would have been a great addition to our initial construction team and could have helped prevent the work that is currently being completed at the school district’s expense.
Mr. Lynn Landis, Ph. D., Superintendent, Bloom-Carroll Local School District
...In their capacity as Commissioning Agents for this project they were a key team member in all facets of the project. They executed a detailed critical review of the systems during the design phase and delivered all construction phase activities in a complete and timely manner.
I work with many Commissioning Agents on a variety of projects. ZH Commissioning’s ability and willingness to help resolve issues and be engaged as part of the project team is something that sets them apart. They always viewed their work in the greater context of project success and customer satisfaction.
I highly recommend them for commissioning services on your project. Messer Construction looks forward to working with them in the future.

Mr. Holten has analyzed all of our buildings and our district as a whole and has led us in developing a focused approach to continuous improvement. He has also commissioned our recent construction projects and guided us in planning for energy efficiency on these projects. Through our collaboration and monthly meetings, Mr. Holten has assisted us in empowering our staff and students to not only improve our buildings; he has also helped us to change our behaviors in terms of energy use. I would highly recommend Mr. Holten and ZH Commissioning to any school district wanting to become a more efficient and more responsible energy consumer.
Kathlyn Burkhardt, Ed.D., Superintendent, Erlanger-Elsmere Schools
If you are considering a consultant or commissioning agent for your project, I have no doubt that you will receive personalized and thorough service from Zerhusen Holten Commissioning, LLC. They were instrumental, if not essential, for the commissioning work at our recently completed Moerlein Lager House project located on the Banks in Cincinnati, Ohio. If their efforts on this project are reflective of work for all projects, I am confident you will be satisfied with your selection of ZHCx, LLC.
Michael Schumacher, President, Schumacher Construction Management, Inc.
As the owners representative, I have worked with Chris for the past 4 plus years on more than a dozen construction or renovation projects. Chris’ main responsibility has been to provide commissioning services for mechanical, electrical, lighting control, audio visual systems, central sound systems, HVAC and building control systems. In addition he has been an asset to the owners design and construction management team as an advocate to ensure that the building systems are designed, installed, functionally tested and capable of operating in compliance with the design intent and the owner’s project requirements. He continually strives for innovative ways to seamlessly transition from the construction process of our facilities to operation and maintenance. I look forward to this professional relationship for many projects into the future. I highly recommend Chris Zerhusen to anyone seeking a highly qualified commissioning services professional.

As I have said many times before, I’m very impressed by the services of your company. The remarkable decrease in the energy use of the Library is extraordinary. I am amazed that simple changes, like removing extra light bulbs and configuring new exterior lighting, have brought such savings. If my memory holds, we’ve seen our average energy costs at all of our three buildings go down by 15% or more. These buildings were not constructed in the age, now ubiquitous, of “going green”… yet, with your oversight and guidance, we’ve exceeded the energy efficiency of buildings constructed much more recently that employ newer technology, construction methods, and building designs. Our cost savings in maintenance, however, are the real treasure. We’ve saved thousands of dollars in our regular maintenance costs. I am almost ashamed of the money that we spent on unnecessary service in the past.
A key to this success is your company’s commitment to looking at the return on investment costs of employing new ideas. I am so grateful for the time you’ve taken to analyze each step forward that we’ve made to ensure that we are getting the best “bang” for our dollars when we implement something new. Your suggestions and advice have been solid. Thank you for your time with us. Again, I’m impressed. Your communications with me, our maintenance staff, and my board have been clear and, even in the “green age”, necessary for people to understand how we can bring our energy costs down. You’ve done a good job.

...The Greene County Career Center first realized the extent of Chris Zerhusen’s talents during a near catastrophic HVAC freeze event that threatened to close our school for several months. Chris’s employer at the time had designed the system and when “the chips were down,” he was the one, despite not having any prior involvement in the project, that was dispatched to assist in the effort to save the system. That single fact is a true testament to the character and work ethic that encompasses his professionalism.
When ZHCx was formed, we felt Chris and his associates were our best option to step in and take over the commissioning phase of the project to find solutions to our continuing problems. ZHCx employs a unique hands-on approach to commissioning that is not the industry standard. Instead of mindlessly sitting at a computer terminal and filling in a spreadsheet, ZHCx physically touches the equipment, tweaks it, tests it, and then creates a report with verified facts. ZHCx knows their stuff and have been proving that their methods work by showing results no one else was willing to look for.
If you are looking for a commissioning provider and do not choose ZH Commissioning, you are making a huge mistake. This company is the “real deal” and can teach other providers a thing or two on the right way to commission a project…
Daniel J. Schroer, Former Superintendent, Greene County Career Center
We have used the services of Zerhusen Holten Commissioning, LLC. as a preventative maintenance consultant on our geothermal heating and cooling system. The company is customer oriented, thorough and dedicated. They have always been very responsive to our requests and their courteous and friendly staff know what they are doing. Their experience, dedication and willingness to do whatever it takes to get the job done is exceptional. I highly recommend Zerhusen Holten Commissioning.

I am pleased to be able to take this opportunity to provide some feedback regarding ZH Commissioning and the services provided by their representative, Ian Holten.
Ian has been able to address a number of issues that frankly others could not. He lived up to accountability expectations, understood that we want results, and he has excelled in delivering constructive outcomes. I cannot say enough regarding the quality of service Ian has provide for our district. Suffice it to say I would not consider using anyone other for commissioning and I depend on his expertise when we are faced with the challenges of providing HVAC services throughout our district.

Tama Wagner has really been a major help as we have tried to make sense of the lighting issues and lighting control problems in our new Facility Management building. She has also dug deep into the Ballyshannon lighting control system, and is adding valuable insight that will provide a better product (and in the end, probably save us money!). It truly has been an “above and beyond” effort by her, which isn’t a big surprise as she has given such extra effort many times before (helping Karen with rebates and other info, sitting in on lighting control training, volunteering at the Green Apple Day of Service at BCHS, putting up with my questions :>).
I know from my standpoint, having trusted partners like her on these projects is incredibly important. Tama certainly exhibits that student focus and customer service attitude that we love from our staff (and our corporate partners and vendors). She is top notch!
